Dr Sangita Swechcha is a Nepalese literary figure based in England whose poems, stories, and articles have been published in various literary sites and journals in Nepal, Singapore, UK and the USA. A few of her poems and stories have also been aired on popular radio and FM stations including Radio Nepal, Radio Kantipur, Capital FM 92.4 and telecasted on Nepal Television. Sangita’s first novel, ‘Pakhalieko Siundo’ which she wrote at the age of 18, received excellent reviews from literary critics. The novel focuses on the emotional journey of a Nepalese woman, Sandhya, and delves into her pain, suffering, and determination to overcome her past. It also highlights the issue of human trafficking in Nepal. The book was released by the supreme leader of congress late Ganesh Man Singh, legendary writer Daulat Bikram Bista and popular writer Chetan Karki in Nepal.
Sangita’s story collection book ‘Gulafsangako Prem’, published in 2019, got good reviews in various media based in Nepal, Hong Kong, USA and the UK. The book was released in Kathmandu by Tulasi Diwas, a legendary poet from Nepal and other writers. The book was also launched in London amid a function organised by Nepali Literature Development Council UK. The story collection book is currently being translated into English for its publication in November 2020. Earlier, she has also published a joint collection of stories, ‘Asahamati ka Pailaharu’.
Sangita was featured in ‘Global Voices’ in 2019. Her interview with Global Voices by Qurratulain (Annie) Zaman, originally published in English, was also published in Greek, Russian, French, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Romanian, Czech, Bangla, Malagasy, Arabic and Nepali languages which gave her a wider recognition among literature lovers in various countries.
Sangita was a Guest Editor for the ‘Nepali Literature Month – November 2019’ for Global Literature in Libraries Initiative (GLLI), a USA based organisation working towards the visibility of world literature. Her effort in bringing Nepali literature to the external world through her posts everyday at the GLLI website during November 2019 was well appreciated by many writers and literature lovers in Nepal and abroad.
